-------------------------------------

Nearly all of the 100 tunes in the EATMS tune book (plus loads more) can be found on www.tradirishmusic.org.
See and hear the sheet music in the Myriad Music browser plug-in, hear and download the EATMS recording of the tune, plus links to other resources for that tune elsewhere on the web.
Check out the 'useful links' Tab on www.tradirishmusic.org for a link to a great Irish Music Rhythm Tutor.

-------------------------------------

Parking is now available in the gasworks yard if you are there at 8pm.
Please note that the yard entrance is on Irish Quarter South and this is now one way street with access from the Albert Road end.

-------------------------------------

Experienced musicians please note that the sessions are primarily aimed at relative newcomers. You are of course very welcome but please be prepared for tunes being played at a pace maybe slower than you are used to. Having said that, we are confident that the quality and pace of the music played is something that even the most experienced musicians will enjoy.

I know we haven't had our December slow session yet, but just to extend an invitation to musicians and families to the Friday 7th December session in the Gasworks as it is the night of the Gasworks committee are having their Christmas get together with the usual refreshments and us providing some background music. It worked well last year. So maybe see you there! - Carrickfergus

Who's up for an organised music weekend away to Donegal (maybe Ardara area) this year? A wee bit of cultural exchange sounds like just the ticket! What do you think?

I am from a marching band background and now one of a group of people that has got together to play flutes and drums . After getting involved with Martin we now have a better interest in more traditional music and wish we could of done his a long time ago.
Martin thanks for your time and hope you can give us more...only joking

Good Luck

There have been discussions at planning level in the school regarding the provision of a (slow) session for minors, particularly those coming through the school. While it is unlikely that anything will be in place for them this side of the summer, the general feeling is that it is something that needs to develop seperately from an adult (slow) session. While we are aware that this contradicts an earlier message on this noticeboard, the latest thinking is that the mix is something that would take away from the experience for both groupings. (For the children, in that they are stuck with the old fuddy-duddies and for the adults, in that the session is maybe a time to get away from parental responsibilities for a short while.) Hopefully the school will soon be in a position to provide a specific slow session for young people exclusively in the not too distant future.

Hi all,
Just thought I would get out an email before the Easter holidays to give you a bit of advance notice of events. Stick these dates in your diaries:-

(1) Friday 20th April - Slow Session in the Gasworks.
(2) Friday 18th May - Slow Session in the Gasworks.
(3) TUESDAY 12th June - Slow Session Special (incl. BBQ) in the Gasworks.

Please note that the JUNE Slow Session & BBQ will be on a TUESDAY night and will be included as an event in the week long 'Carrickfergus Together in Time Traditional Music Festival' being held 11th - 17th June 2007, and organised by the East Antrim Traditional Music School. But don't worry, we are not performing. We just sit in the corner doing our usual stuff like a kind of background music. There may be one or two musical visitors to enhance the night's proceedings, but it will be all very spontaneous.
The festival itself is being OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED during Community Relations Week on the afternoon of Thursday 3rd MAY in Carrick Civic Centre, Antrim Street. I believe Festival programmes will be released on that day and I hear the School will provide some music at the launch. Duncan Morrow (Chairman of the Community Relations Council) will be in attendance and will be speaking at this event which is being organised by Carrickfergus Council.
So an exciting time ahead. Hopefully as many as possible will be available for these three Slow Sessions before the summer, especially for the 12th June. Happy Easter. See you soon.

Enquiries have been made regarding children being included in the Slow Session. We are happy to accomodate any one wishing to deelop their skills in tandem with the other members of the Slow Session. The nature of things nowadays though means that we must insist that all children must be accompanied by an adult.. We do hope at some stage to provide a specific slow session for young people exclusively. - N.Ireland

Just some further information on the "Slow Session" which, I hope, will encourage others to come along.
1. We try to structure the session to ensure that everybody gets to play along and get something from the evening.
2. To achieve this we try to follow the EATMS Tune book, which is broken up into 3 sections, 'Introductory', 'Intermediate' and 'Advanced' tunes. So at the start of the evening we begin with tunes from the Introductory section and progress through the evening to the intermediate and advanced sections.
3. Most of the tunes we will play at different speeds, beginning slow and then, if anyone is able, we will run through the set a bit faster.
4. Martin has published our current tune list in a previous message, so if you want to come along just make sure that you have practiced a couple of tunes from that list.
Each month we try to add a tune (or two) to the list, which gives everyone a challenge for the next time we meet.
I think I am fairly safe in saying no one knows all the tunes on the list, so it doesn't matter if you know some or most, just join in with those you know.
5. So far we have fiddles, flute, High D whistles, Low D whistle, Bodhrans, bones, accordian, mandolin, guitar, guitar/bazouki?,
6.We are a really friendly bunch and everyone is getting a lot from these sessions. New 'sessioneers' are coming along all the time. So why not give it a go?
7. If you are thinking of coming and want some encouragement or advice email me or Martin Murray or one of the tutors from the EATMS and we'll be happy to chat.
